Spring Break

March 13th, 2009

Even though I have been on Spring Break this week, I have been busy with school related projects. I have spent a good portion of my vacation reading more books for my CIT paper. I have enjoyed reading the two Jean Baudrillard books I ordered. My senior project advisor, Dr. Gerald Lucas, suggested I read Baudrillard. Over the last two weeks I have been reading Simulacra and Simulation and America.

As I sit here doing laundry and packing for a trip to New York City tomorrow, I am dwelling on Baudrillard’s idea of “pure traveling.” I am going to New York with a group of students from Macon State College to attend the College Media Advisers conference. I have been to New York numerous times for work and play, but never as a student. So, I feel this trip to the Big Apple as a college student will be interesting.

In America, Baudrillard writes of his New York experience by saying: “There is no human reason to be here, except for the sheer ecstasty of being crowded together.” I am about to go to New York and savor the crowdedness of it all.

To be continued from NYC!
